This is a filler post. There will be no plot progression or character insights. Just words used to waste both space and time. Do you like that? Do you like that smug self-awareness? I don’t, I hate it. The idea that a person can do something shitty and then say, “Well, yeah, but it’s supposed to be shitty. I’m letting you know ahead of time so you can be in on the joke. Don’t get mad, alright?” and that somehow that reverses the situation, turning bad content into good content, is so cynical, so crass. It infuriates me.
I understand why people do it, it’s very appealing to be lazy. Writing something good is hard, and you’re going to fail 99% of the time. And if you have deadlines, if you’re someone getting paid to write crap that needs to be pushed out at a very specific time and place, of course you’re going to do it. Especially when critics will praise you for doing so, since critics also have deadlines, are also lazy, and are forced to consume content at an entirely unpleasant pace. So in the case of self-aware bullshit, it eases the work load of both the creative and the critic, allowing them to finish up early and call it a day, no brain cells needed. No effort required, just pump that garbage out and say you’re being, “meta” with it.
What a terrible trend. What a truly awful despicable trend. What a horrific state of affairs. I weep for the human race.
